    Art Exploration for the Young Artist

    Instructor: Susan Manbeian

    Level: Beginner-Advanced

    Ages: 6-14

    Description:

    This exploratory class is designed for students who love art. Instructruction will be differentiated by student interest, ability, and age.

    This class is a part of a year round art class which teaches the Elements (line, shape, form, color, space, texture and value) and Principals of Art (rhythm, balance, variety and etc). The subject matter used to highlight the Elements and Principals is cross curricular in nature and may include math, science literature, history, or music. All lessons exceed state standards for teaching Art.

    Creative thought and expression is a constant theme, and students will be taught techniques in pencil, charcoal, colored pencil, watercolors, pen and ink, pastels, oil pastels, acrylic paint, clay and found objects throughout the year.

    The first month will highlight color and line. Color and science, color and culture and color for the artist (color theory). The study of line will include line and contour drawings and line creating pattern and texture.

    There is an additional $15 supply fee due to the instructor at the beginning of each 6 week period.

    Drama Enrichment Classes for Kids

    Saturday Mornings, 9-11 am

    This 6 week drama course will set the stage for students Pre K-3rd grade to engage in dramatic play.

    Through Greater Joy Productions’ 5 principles:

    • speech,
    • movement,
    • ensemble building,
    • creative expression & self discovery,

    Through a series of drama based games and activities students will have the opportunity to learn, connect, and play together, all while learning theatre!

    Adult Drama Enrichment Classes

    Wednesdays 6-8PM, beginning November 16th


    Drama is more than performance, it is a way of learning about ourselves and connecting to others. In this 6 week course, participants will be introduced drama through Greater Joy Productions’ 5 principles, speech, movement, ensemble building, creative expression, self discovery as well as explore both scripted and improvisational work. 

    No previous performance skills necessary, this course is for adults ages 18 plus who are open to exploring the joy of performance.

    Overview:

    This class is intended for beginning, intermediate and advanced students.

    Beginning students will start with a series of drawing exercises from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course to develop a foundation of drawing techniques and terminology.  Once the basic drawing exercises are completed students will then be encouraged to complete more advanced drawing and painting projects of their favorite subjects.

    Intermediate and advanced students will work on more challenging drawing and painting projects that may include drawing from reference photos and still life.   

    Classes are on going from month to month and you can start at any time however, registration is monthly on the WAL website.

    Art Trading Card Group 


    Make an ATC ornament (or two) this month.

    This will likely be our last meeting at the bookstore!

    Open to adults and older teens accompanied by adults. Artist trading cards are small works of art (2.5" X 3.5") that you can make to trade with others, or keep.

    We will provide what you need to make cards but, if you have supplies such as watercolors, markers, stamps, collage materials, etc, please bring them. We will provide instructions, links to trading groups, and inspiration along with supplies.

    This free group meets once a month on the second Monday evening at 6 PM in Buy the Book Bookstore,  25162 Grogan's Park Dr, The Woodlands, 77380 next to 3rd Gen Coffee.

    Rob Liberace Workshop

    Studies In Light: Exploring Sorolla 

    Explore the great Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla and his unique and dynamic approach to painting. Students look at and practice Sorolla's special manner of paint handling and color approach. Using bold modern colors, students learn the different characteristics of his highly chromatic palette. This workshop includes the study of the costumed portrait and features discussions on anatomy and painting fabric. 

    Dates: Sunday, April 2 - Tuesday, April 4, 2023

    Times: 9am - 4pm each day

    Cost:  Members: $700 plus model fees 

                Nonmembers: $775 plus model fees

    Cancelation policy:  100% refund minus administration fees until 12 am December 31st, 2022, 70% refund minus administration fees until 12 am, February 1st, 2023.  No refunds after February 1st, 2023.   

    The Woodlands Art Leagues reserves the right to cancel the workshop if the minimum number of attendees is not reached, in which case 100% minus administration fees will be refundable to all registered.   

WAL offers a great variety of classes in various mediums for both children and adults.  WAL' s mission is to provide the community with professional but affordable art education to help provide students the opportunity to explore their passion for the arts, improve their natural talent, and create modes for expression.

WAL is currently only accepting online registration and payments.  You will be asked to bring in the registration and permission form to the first class or workshop.
