Portraiture

What is Portraiture?

Portraits are works of art that record the likeness of a live model in an interesting costumes and scenes.

Some portraiture is also created by artists purely for the sake of creating art, rather than working on commission. The human body and face are fascinating subjects that many artists like to study in their personal work.

There is no instruction for this group. All levels and mediums are welcome. However, please bring low odor products for turpentine, etc.  The first meeting you attend is free!

The Monday Portrait Group meets every week on Monday mornings beginning at 9:30.  Artists will paint, draw, and create portraits from a live model in our Woodlands Studio (701 Sawdust Rd. The Woodlands, TX 77380).  There are  no restrictions on what media you may use, but we do ask that no Volatile Organic Chemicals (like turpentine) be used as thinners for oil paints.  If you need easels or tables, they are available, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Overall, the group meets for three hours, with the model sitting the the same pose for the whole time (with rest breaks). There is no instructor or teacher, just other artists who are willing to answer any questions you may have.

A small fee may be required to pay the model and to cover other expenses.
