    Welcome to Open Studio

    At Open Studio you can bring any artwork in progress or

    start something new!


    It is not a structured class or event but a chance to work among other artists. Any medium or art activity is welcomed - pencil drawing, pen & ink drawing, acrylic, art journaling, collage, mixed media, pastels, oils, watercolor, etc.


    All ages are welcome!

    Ages 17+ are welcome and an adult coordinator will be present full time to assist any art-loving teens/young adults if they have questions.

    Fee:

    $5 for TWAL Members and $10 for Non-Members

    Overview:

    This class is intended for beginning, intermediate and advanced adults and older teens.

    Beginning students will start with a series of drawing exercises from the Charles Bargue Drawing Course to develop a foundation of drawing techniques and terminology.  Once the basic drawing exercises are completed students will then be encouraged to complete more advanced drawing and painting projects of their favorite subjects.

    Intermediate and advanced students will work on more challenging drawing and painting projects that may include drawing from reference photos and still life.  

    Class Fees are paid monthly in advance:  $25/hour (members) and $30/hour (non-members)


        TWAL Class Changes, Cancellations & Refunds Policy 

                                      Effective August 1, 2025 

    • Individual instructors may have make-up policies for missed classes. Please check with your instructor.

    • If you must cancel your registration for a class, refund requests must be made via email to the Treasurer at twaltreas@thewoodlandsartleague.org  3 days before the first class starts.

    • Refund requests received less than 3 days before the first class are non-refundable.

    • No refunds are issued for “no shows” for classes.

    • A $10 processing fee will be deducted for a refund on any class fee.

    • Refund checks are mailed approximately 10-14 days after the class refund request is received by the Treasurer at twaltreas@thewoodlandsartleague.org 

    • Refunds will only be issued by checks.

    Artist Registration Guidelines for LSAG and TWAL

    Before you begin your registration, please read the rules and guidelines in Step 1!

    There are Three Steps to the Registration Process

     1.  Download and Read Rules:     Learn about the LSAG Rules, Divisions and Categories for this Show. LSAG SHOW RULES - FINAL 5 2025.pdf.  Download and read the TWAL_Show_Schedule_Prospectus3.pdf, which gives detailed guidelines and information about this show. This Show follows the LSAG Rules, and TWAL has noted fees and additional items associated with this Show in the Prospectus.
    2.  Register Your Artwork and Pay Entrance Fees with TWAL: Register your artwork(s) online with The Woodlands Art League (TWAL) using the registration links to the left on this page and pay fees with credit card.

    3.  Register Your Artwork In the LSAG Database: Enter all details as required into the LSAG database at this link: http://lsag.wspub.com/ (Helpful Hints about registering artwork are in the LSAG database linked here: LSAG Database Website Login Directions.pdf )

    • Your username will be your email address
    • Your password will be the first letter of your first name, capitalized, and then the first letter of your last name capitalized, followed by the rest of your last name in lower case. Password example: for Jane Smith = JSmith
    • You should be able to change your password if needed.

    ART INTAKE: October 10th, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. / Art Intake Open for Registered Artists

    Location: Sam Houston State University – The Woodlands Center (4th floor), 3380 College Park Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77384

    Please print and use temporary tags for intake and familiarize yourself with the SHSU Woodlands Center for drop off. The Art Show and Exhibit will take place on the 4th floor. Elevators are available.  Temporary Art Tags, SHSU-The Woodlands Center Map 

    ART PICK-UP: October 12th, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. / Artists sign-out & take their artwork

    Friendly reminders regarding LSAG Qualifying Shows: 
        The Woodlands Art League’s Exhibit & Show is open to all artists in Texas. Artists do not have to be a member of an art league to enter this show. This is an LSAG qualifying show and meets the rules and standards set by the Lone Star Art Guild. Winners will be eligible to enter the Juried Show at the LSAG Annual Show in June 2026.

        If you are a show winner but are not a member of an LSAG league, you will need to join TWAL or another LSAG affiliated league to advance to the Annual LSAG show. If you are already a member of TWAL or any other LSAG affiliated league you are automatically a member of the Lone Star Art Guild and are eligible to enter other LSAG qualifying shows and upon winning, can advance to the annual LSAG show.
