Have you wanted to learn oil painting, but didn’t want to invest in a lot of expensive supplies?  This class might be just what you are looking for!  The cost of all the materials you would have to buy would easily exceed the cost of the class.  This 4 week class will take you through setting up a still life, lighting, composition, ways to transfer your set up to the canvas, learning to get a proper value structure, mixing color, choosing shadow colors, and tips to “turn form”, so that your painting comes to life!

We will begin by making a value stick, and a 3-d color wheel, which will help you make decisions in all your paintings, whether they be oil, acrylic, pastel, etc. I will show you ideas for making a small light box, and how to use photography to see ways you might want to approach your composition. We will also do some small paintings of common still life shapes (fruit, bowls, etc.) so that you can get comfortable with color mixing, brushstrokes, etc. before starting your main painting. I have lots of props to choose from, and I will supply canvas panels, paint, brushes, palette papers, solvent, and easels. Of course, you are welcome to bring any of your own supplies too!
