General Meeting

  • Sat, May 14, 2022
  • 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • WAL Studio and Gallery, 701 Sawdust Rd., Spring, TX

Registration is closed

Members and nonmembers are invited to join us at this month's general meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other artists, hear all of the latest WAL news and enjoy a demonstration by Lauren Combs.

Lauren will demonstrate how she uses cold wax to create beautiful, atmospheric paintings.  Cold wax medium is a mixture of pure beeswax, damar resin, and a solvent. Mixed with oil paints, it is applied with painting knives, rollers, or brushes...in translucent layers that can be built up or carved into. Unlike encaustic wax, cold wax needs no heat and far less equipment. It has a velvety finish that can be slightly buffed when dry. In this demo Lauren will show several different stages of working on a painting and demonstrate how to mix the wax and paint.  Lauren Combs currently teaches acrylic at the Woodlands Art League Gallery and Studio, where her students are not only learning useful acrylic techniques, but they are also beginning to experiment with cold wax as well.

How to get to the WAL Studio at 701 Sawdust Rd.

You will see a strip center to the right of Hobby Lobby. To the left of the strip center is a blue and silver building. To the left of that building, you will see a silver two-story building. WAL is in the silver building, and our entrance is on the right side of the building.

The mission of The Woodlands Art League is to promote and support the visual arts in The Woodlands and surrounding communities through education, instruction, exhibitions, and community involvement. TWAL is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
