What is Spanish & Clay?

Spanish and Clay is class designed to help children learn basic vocabulary of Spanish through the practice of the art of ceramics, using the CLIL method.

Art is the perfect medium for language learning because it allows kids to explore and learn new vocabulary without the stress of being perfect.

What will children learn in Spanish & Clay?

Students will learn basic Spanish vocabulary through the practice of ceramics. The class is in English and introduces new words and phrases in Spanish, such as greetings, farewells, shapes, colors, numbers, etc.

Students will learn three different techniques of hand building ceramics. They will make different shapes, learn how to join the pieces and use under-glazes. They will finish their pieces using glazes and acrylics.

Projects:

1. Using “Pinching” we will make a bubble head animal, monsters, birds, and more animals.

2. With “Slabs” we will build cups, plates and pitchers.

3. “Coils” will help us to make bowls and plates.

We make a project per class.

How to get to the WAL Studio at 701 Sawdust Rd.

You will see a strip center to the right of Hobby Lobby. To the left of the strip center is a blue and silver building. To the left of that building, you will see a silver two-story building. WAL is in the silver building, and our entrance is on the right side of the building.
