The Woodlands Art League announces its Summer 2022 specialty show; the first we have dedicated to the art of photography and digital media. 

The show will be held at the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center on Riley Fuzzel Rd, Spring 77386 from June 23rd to June 25th, with all entries having a "Nature" theme.

The public is invited to participate in this competition which will include eight categories: Landscapes and Seascapes, Macro, Wildlife, Flowers and Plants, Mixed Media, Black and White, Digital and Open (abstract, alternative substrates, etc) category.  

Prizes will be awarded for both adult and under-seventeen years in all categories. Older teens will have the option to enter as an adult.

Awards will be given out in a ceremony and artist reception the final day of the show.

Registration opens: May 10th, 2022

Registration deadline: June 19th

Drop work off Wednesday, June 22nd, from 9-11am , at Nature Center 

Judging:Friday, June 24th from 9-11am

Open to public: June 23rd 1-4pm, June 24th 12-4pm, June 25th 9-3:30pm

Award ceremony and reception: June 25th 1-3:30

Work pick up: June 25th 3:30-4:00

Entry fees:

Adult members: $10 per entry or 3 for $25; add 2 more for $10 

Adult non-members: $15 per entry or 3 for $35: add 2 more for $10 

Kids:$5 per entry, limit 4


General rules: All work must depict show theme of "Nature."


All work must hang, no 3D or standing

work. All photographs must be original, including those in Open and Digital categories. Except for digital or open categories minimal digital manipulation should be used; all photographs should be family friendly

There is a limit of 17"x21" for pieces, including mat, mounting board, or frame. 

Pieces will be hung on panels using velcro.


As this is our first specialty show, there is no limit on when photographs were taken.


To that we concentrate on the skill and art of each artist, we prefer to minimize frame use; no glass or plexi. 

Photos should be printed and top-mounted on black or white/cream matboard or acid-free foam core, a minimal black or white/cream hinged mat can be used. Light weight neutral colored frames of wood or metal may be used if able to be hung with velcro on flat backs. Mats or top mount margins should not be more than 2".



First, second, and third, and honorable mention ribbons will be given in each category. There will also be $50 cash awards for Best of Show and People's Choice. Some work may cross category lines, you must choose one.


Category 1: Landscape. This includes seascapes, beach scapes, gardens, etc. Limited man-made structures and people.


Category 2: Flowers and plants. Blooms, leaves, berries, trees, vegetables, etc. 


Category 3: Macro. Closeups of anything natural...bugs, fur, stones, plants, and more.


Category 4: Wildlife. No domesticated farm animals or pets, but house spiders, zoo creatures, bird-feeder visitors, etc are acceptable along with those seen in the wild.  Non-local animals welcome. 


Category 5: Black and White. Digital or film. 


Category 6: Digital art. If it was composed on a computer or heavily manipulated, enter it here. Nature theme still in effect  and should be recognizable!


Category 7: Mixed media. At least 60% of piece must include photography in which show theme can be recognized. Collages, photo transfer, hand-colored black and white photos, embellished and textured work accepted if lightweight and adhering to general rules.


Category 8: Open. Abstract, alternative substrates, experimental processes, or finishes, printed on canvas...anything else.
