Three-Day Workshop with Richie Vios
January 15, 16 & 17, 2026
Richie Vios, an award-winning Plein Air Watercolor artist, will host a three-day workshop for intermediate to advanced-level artists who want to learn the art of watercolor painting. The workshop will showcase how the four pillars of great painting—Shapes, Values, Edges, and Color—can be used as a device to achieve impressive watercolor results. Additionally, it will demonstrate how to simplify the watercolor process into its essential elements, guiding each artist toward a better understanding of the importance of learning watercolor consistency and mastering ultimate timing to reach their desired level of watercolor painting.
Artist Statement
I believe that the mark of a good artist is to be able to capture the different facets of life in his painting, the mood, ambiance, etc. In a sense, not just illustrating or recording what he sees but expressing what he feels.
The subject in front of me is my inspiration, complemented with my imagination, charged with my passion, and a personal artistic impression embodied in my watercolor works.
Biography
Richie N. Vios SLPAPA, AIS, SWS
Born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines, surrounded by the influence of an artistic family, Richie ventured into academia after earning a bachelor's degree in architecture in 1995, he became a university faculty member.
In 2005, Richie sought fresh prospects and moved to America, working as an architectural designer in Clearwater, Florida, for six years. Upon his return to the Philippines in 2010, he resumed his architectural practice with a vision to harmonize Western architectural principles with Southeast Asian aesthetics. During his architectural practice in the Philippines, Richie dedicated his spare time over the next seven years to honing his watercolor painting skills, a passion that now defines his artistic identity.
Reuniting with his family in Victoria, Texas, in 2018, Richie embarked on a new chapter as a watercolor impressionist and Plein Air artist, reigniting his pursuit of the American dream. Presently residing in Austin, Texas, Richie participates in Plein Air events nationwide and leads watercolor workshops to share his expertise and inspire fellow artists.
