Acrylic and Mixed Media Painting
New off-site location at Artisan Culture Coffee Shop in the Grogan's Mill Shopping Center
If you are an absolute beginner, have ever been told by someone that art is not your strong point, or are coming back after a years long hiatus, we have a welcoming group for you to join!
Basic information covered but experimentation is a strong point for this class! Start with strengthening skills then add various texture, collage, collagraph and other mixed media techniques.
You can even take a side-trip and try cold wax and oil or oil-glazing acrylics; if either of these interest you this is currently the only class where we dabble in these mysterious arts!
Four classes are $125 . One make up date is included for each session which must be taken 30 days after last scheduled class.
Supplies are not included; a basic acrylic supply list will be attached to registration confirmation, along with other important info. Please contact me for suggested supplies for wax and oil.

Cold Wax and Oil Painting
Discover texture, depth, and transparency in this cold wax class. Cold wax mixed with pigments (usually oil paints) is built up in layers, usually on wood, which can be smooth or heavily textured, opaque or transparent, carved into, added to collage or embedding techniques. it differs from encaustic wax in that no heat is used - so the specialized set-up and tools demanded for encaustic painting are not required.
Supplies are not included; a basic supply list will be attached to registration confirmation, along with other important info.
Serendipity Crafts Group
Buy the Book and the Woodlands Art League are jointly sponsoring this new community art group. We will meet on the 4th Monday evening of each month at Buy the Book at 6PM to create a different project each time, led by an art league member.
This August 22nd will be an alcohol ink project on Grafix plastic, a surface with much in common to the more expensive Yupo.
Wear old clothes or bring an apron -and gloves! Alcohol ink will stain the skin on your fingers and your manicurist will stop returning your calls.
I will bring my supplies and the Grafix, but I recommend the following:
1) A small set of nylon or taklon short handled brushes. (Joann's has a sweet set for $10.99 and is generous with 40-50% off coupons...12 brushes and a plastic storage pouch, Michael's and Hobby Lobby have similar sets and Walmart may also). These brushes can be added to your craft kit for future projects.
2) A bottle of 91-99% isopropol alcohol. We will use this plus a dash of glycerin to make our own blending medium.
3) A mini misting bottle and a small bottle to fill with the blending mix.
4) Paper towels
5) Miscellaneous fun stuff...bring it IF you've got it: your own favorite ink colors, and small cup palette (99 cent type) or a handful of water bottle caps, clear blending pen, aqua brush to fill with medium, inexpensive (dollar store) bath sponge
