MEMBER ACTIVITIES

Guest Artist Demonstrations
After each monthly general meeting, we host a guest artist to give a demonstration of his or her art. We seek people who have a variety of skills and interests and those we might not normally have an opportunity to see here. Included are artists who work in oils, watercolors, mixed media, pastels, etc.

Judged Art Shows
The Woodlands Art League is a member of The Lone Star Art Guild and we host 2 LSAG-ruled shows a year. The show is open to all WAL and other LSAG members. It is judged by an independent artist hired by WAL. See Lone Star Art Guild for rules. Check the calendar for information on the next show. For more information, contact Beverly Chemin, VP-Judged Shows.

Library Shows
The Woodlands Art League sponsors library shows at the Mitchell Library and the South County Library twice a year. This is an opportunity for artists to display their work for a month at no charge to the artist. The public is welcomed and encouraged to make purchases. Each show has a featured artist displays several pieces. There will be a written article about his/her art preferences, background, and art experiences and accomplishments. Pictures and an article will be submitted to the local newspaper for publication. Check the Calendar for the next scheduled show. For more information contact Marcie Aduddell, Library Shows Director.

Workshops
Working with a more experienced artist in a focused learning environment is a great way to refine existing skills and learn new ones or to learn more about a medium or approach with which you are not familiar. WAL organizes workshops and informs members about upcoming workshop opportunities in the area.

Art groups
All artists are invited to open art groups to draw or paint from a live model. Only model fee required. Click on Art Groups in the Submenu on the left.

Community Involvement
In addition to the above, WAL is a Charity Partner of the Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival, helping to provide hundreds of volunteer hours to make this event a success. Contact Kim Abbati for more info.

General Meeting
WAL holds a monthly General Meeting to socialize, update members on WAL events and hear a presentation by a guest artist. Consult the Calendar page for the specific upcoming dates.

Unless announced otherwise, our meetings are held at the South County Community Center located at 2235 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands (next to the Library) at 6:30-9:00 P.M.

Video Library
WAL maintains a collection of learning videos in the custody of our Librarian, Kader Bashessais.  Kader provides Video and DVD check outs for one month and are normally due back at the next scheduled general meeting. See Kader's contact information and forms on the right to contact him or download a copy of the video library.  WAL welcomes donations of videos or DVD to add to the club library.
